Death, A Form of Entertainment

We have seen an incredible growth in human interest towards homicide. ID channel is on televisions in living rooms all across America. Netflix is pumping out 22 true crime documentaries a week. The Cropsey killer, Ted Bundy, Son of Sam, etc. always bring out people searching for anything investigations hadn’t uncovered. Local crimes have people driving to crime scenes and reading every piece of news we can get our hands on. We follow true crime authors and investigators on social media, we visit museums where relics can be seen from various homicide and other deadly crimes.

The question is why? Is it some sort of coping mechanism to face the fact that we all die? Is it because we are all curious as to what it’s like to face real life horror from a safe distance? After all, when you think about it we devour every fact, every photo, and every detail from any particular homicide case that gets in our paths. I think when someone dies of unnatural causes it instantly sparks human interest. Add to it the killer walks the streets until found and you learn of victims being tied together based on crime type it instantly becomes an event. Then when the details come out people turn it into pop culture and things we study. No one considers how upsetting it is to the victims families that it keeps staying at the front.

Morbid curiosity has powered man since the beginning of time. Death has always been something few if anyone at all understands. Death happens multiple times a day and shakes anyone close to the deceased. But add some details that are macabre and people all over the globe follow the story. We wanna know who the killer was, what’s their background, how many have they killed, more Importantly……have they been apprehended? Because if they are walking the streets I could be the next victim. We visit true crime scenes because it gives a rush of adrenaline. You wonder who’s watching you, and who might show up at anytime.

Lacey watches Investigation Discovery channel nearly every day so she clearly has an interest. I’ve been studying serial killers and watching Horror films since I was a child. Together we share a morbid curiosity for this stuff and tend to seek out crime scenes. Death is strange and we wanna understand why someone would take a life from another. Truth is we will never know because murder goes back to the beginning of time. People do it to survive, to gain an edge, for power, for revenge, and some just out of cold blooded action.

Going forward for us while we will continue to chase history, continue to hit breweries, find exciting food, and look at anything we can find odd. But we’d be lying if we didn’t admit this true crime stuff didn’t make us excited so expect to see that going forward as well. (We’ll have a blog on Skidmore, MO coming up).

Thanks everyone for your time in reading and following us. We will see you all out and about and as always, if you have something we should check then please let us know!
